A NINE MONTH SABBATICAL BENEFITS ENDOMETRIAL CANCER

How fortunate we were to have Professor Siti Zawiah Omar arrive in Sydney last November for a nine month sabbatical at the Royal Hospital for Women. Siti is the Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur with a special interest in gynaecological cancer and high risk pregnancies.
During her time in Australia, Siti has been working alongside Professor Neville Hacker, researching endometrial cancer and publishing a joint paper.
This is Siti’s second visit to Australia, having worked at the Royal Brisbane and Womens’ Hospital in 2000. This time, however, she is not alone. Her whole family is here, including her husband, an orthopaedic surgeon who is on sabbatical at St George Hospital, and their three children aged seven, 10 and 14 who have attended school whilst here.
On this visit, Siti has been impressed by the superiority of the services offered at the Royal, compared to those in Malaysia. In particular, our dedicated services in gynaecological pathology and oncology, our specialist physiotherapists and psychologists, as well as our genetic counsellors.
We do hope we see Professor Siti Zawiah Omar and her family again soon, and wish them a safe trip home.
