Donations Medical
research is expensive. The GO Research Fund is dedicated to assisting Professors Neville Hacker and Robert Sutherland, two of Australia’s most outstanding medical specialists and researchers, to find a new blood test that can be used to screen women for ovarian cancer. With earlier diagnosis by better screening, cure rates will be markedly improved. Many researchers are unable to commence valuable projects because of the enormous cost of initiating a program. Consider the costs of building a laboratory and furnishing it with state of the art equipment before the first theory can be explored. Economy of scale has lead to the collaboration between a leading treatment centre and a leading research centre. This provides a vast infrastructure for both clinical and laboratory research and necessitates funding only for the laboratory research personnel.
The salary package for a research assistant is $59,000 and for a research fellow is $76,000 pa. An annual contribution of this kind would enable the Committee to recruit a valuable member of the research team.
Situated within the Royal Hospital for Women, the
GO Research Fund's expenses are minimal. Without funding, the ongoing research would not be possible - research that is helping to save lives. "The key to winning the battle against ovarian cancer is the discovery of early diagnostic tools,” says Steven Eckowitz,
past Chairman of the GO Research Fund. “But changing the course of this disease requires money for research. I invite you to join with me in supporting this vital work. With your help we can make a difference to the lives of those we love." |
